While perusing the magazine rack I discovered The New York Dog Magazine. I haven’t had a chance to sit down and really analyze it but if the fashion section is any indication, it really is something special.
I can’t believe what’s going on in China to “curb” the rabbies outbreak. In some cases, apparently, they have beaten dogs to death in front of their owners. The photos on this site are disturbing but if you want to read more about the situation.
In keeping with the Chihuahua theme from last week:

That is Bubba, a Jack Russell who is being threatened by the Victoria Island Health Commission in Canada. He spends time behind the counter of the bookstore portion of a bookstore/coffee shop. Apparently, the two parts of the store are separate, and share little common area but are not separated by any physical barrier. I understand the objection to having animals roaming around a food establishment but if the patron’s don’t object they should let him stay. I like this patron’s suggestion: “”Put a sign on the door: Warning — Jack Russell terrier and bagels in the same general area.”
Another disturbing headline: Commissioner criticizes cainine segregation. In my opinion, he’s actually criticizing small dog liberation. This man must be stopped! Tompkins Square Park has a small dog run, for pups under 23lbs and it appears to work pretty well for protecting small dogs from larger breeds. Small dogs needs to be protected from situations like this.
Why’s everyone so anti-small dog? What has the world come to?

Someone posed the questions, “what type of small dog is your favorite small dog?” That’s like asking, “what is the meaning of life?”
What I can say is that I do like Chihuahuas. I like that they are bite sized and have very strong personalities. I used to have a Chihuahua, Terrier mix and I know many people can vouch for me that she was one of the most spectacular dogs ever. Here is a Chihuahua baby, isn’t it edible?

If I had a small dog and also lost my mind I might purchase one of these strollers to jet about town with. I can dream.

Here is a guide to a variety of animal languages. Scroll down for small dogs. If you are going to be in the UK, you can take a class.
Some rat terriers.

Is your small dog talented and Canadian?
Here are some cute photos from a dog talent show. Make sure to click on “view photo gallery” to see all of them.

Today marks the anniversary of Russian Space Dog Laika’s voyage into space aboard the Sputnik II. Sadly, she perished after only a few hours into the trip. I never thought much about the incident untilreading Jeanette Winterson’s Weight. The story isn’t about her but does feature her. As an aside, The Arcade Fire also have a song named after her. I get really sad when I think of this terrified pup being hurtled into space at speeds no dog should ever be forced to travel. She was launched into space November 3, 1957. The Sputnik II didn’t fall out of orbit until April 14, 1958, upon which it burned up as it re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere.
RIP Laika.

French Bulldogs are some of my favorite small dogs. I like to think of them as Snickers bars with legs.
You can purchase several reasonably priced small dog hats and bridal apparel from My Faux Paws. My favorite hat is the Jackie O Pillbox hat. They also do custom orders.

Don’t adjust your monitors, that is in fact a small terrier wearing a cloth diaper. They are for sale.
I saw many excessively cute small dogs out and about for the holiday last night. The Yorkie dressed as superman was perhaps my favorite. I need to start carrying around my camera so I can document the small dogs I encounter. In time.
In the meantime, Save Our Small Dogs!
